The Prime Heat HalCon 18 ft Batch Tunnel (Rack Model, model 1854480R) is a walk-in halogen infrared curing oven that combines heated-air flash with medium-wave and short-wave IR in one programmable cycle. This configuration is built for product loaded on rolling drying racks, with more halogen elements per length than the Standard model for a faster cure on stacked parts. Also available: the Standard model of the same length, built for case goods, and lengths from 6 to 18 ft. Browse them all in Infrared Curing Ovens.

How the HalCon cure cycle works

Every HalCon Batch Tunnel runs three heat modes from one PLC program: heated-air convection, medium-wave infrared and short-wave infrared. Solvent-borne coatings typically start with a heated-air flash, move to medium-wave IR to gently bring solvents to the surface, then switch to short-wave IR for the final cure. Waterborne coatings need less flash time and enter short-wave IR much earlier. Short-wave IR penetrates the film and cures from the inside out, driving water out instead of trapping it under a skinned surface the way gas convection or air drying can.

Controls

  • Allen-Bradley PLC with 7" color touchscreen HMI, multiple program menus, push-button start
  • IR sensors hold product temperature within ±3°F; heated air is controlled by thermocouple
  • Tunnel shuts off automatically when the cure program completes

Operating cost and shop comfort

  • Halogen elements reach full temperature in about one second, with no preheat or purge, so the tunnel only draws power while a cycle is running
  • Product typically reaches set-point in about 45 seconds; lamps then pulse to hold temperature. Typical power use is about 30% of the kW rating
  • IR is absorbed by the part instead of heating the whole room, so parts can be pulled right at cycle end and the shop stays comfortable
  • Red snap-in halogen elements last 6,000–8,000 hours and change in about a minute

Construction

  • 8'6" wide × 8' high enclosure, length per model below
  • 6' double doors with latch
  • Powder-coated white with grey trim, top-mounted Prime Heat air module, 6" exhaust blower
  • Standard sizes shown; custom widths and lengths available

Installation is priced separately (a 12 ft HalCon Batch typically installs in 3 days). Freight is quoted per job. Use Request More Information or call 888-714-1410 to size a tunnel to your parts, line rate and coating.
