G9774 18-Piece HSS Keyway Broach Set

Cut and bore keyways in gears, pulleys, and shafts.

Using the G9774 18-Piece HSS Keyway Broach Set is the quickest and easiest way to produce a keyway.

A keyway is a slot that is cut on a gear, pulley, or shaft which covers the other half of the key projecting out of the shaft in which it is seated.

This set is comprised of four broaches, nine bushings or inserts, and five shims.

The teeth of the broaches were ground in a graduated taper. As the tool is being pushed into the material, each tooth cut a little bit of material at a time.

This set is considered a multiple pass kit meaning a shim can be added to the bushing after every pass to cut a deeper slot.

It is recommended to use liberal amounts of an appropriate cutting fluid for the material being cut.

HSS (high-speed steel) has been heat treated for hardness and wear resistance, which keeps a sharp edge longer than other carbon steels.

The set comes in a fitted wood case.
