FAQ
What is the difference between a plumbed and a portable Hughes eyewash?
Plumbed units connect to your potable water line and flush for as long as needed. Portable gravity-fed units (such as the 10, 15 and 16 gallon models) carry their own flushing fluid for sites with no plumbing. Their water needs an additive like ADDR4PKUS and has to be changed on a schedule.
When do I need a freeze-protected safety shower?
Use a freeze-protected unit anywhere the supply line or valve can freeze, like outdoor tank farms, loading docks or unheated buildings. Hughes freeze-protected models carry an H prefix (for example H2GS, H5G and H45GP) and come in wall, floor and pedestal mount versions.
Do I need a thermostatic mixing valve for my eyewash or shower?
ANSI Z358.1 calls for tepid flushing fluid (60–100°F). If your supply is too cold or too hot, a thermostatic mixing valve blends hot and cold water to a tepid output. Hughes TMVs come in low (TMVEF-AC), mid (TMVS-AC) and high (TMVM-AC) capacity to match an eyewash, a shower or a combination unit.
How often should emergency showers and eyewash stations be tested?
ANSI Z358.1 calls for plumbed units to be turned on weekly and inspected every year. The Hughes TEST-KIT and inspection record cards (SERVICE-CARDS) make it easier to run and document those checks.
