📖 Learn about adhesive spray guns & outfits — water-based vs solvent, gun selection, and FAQ

Spray guns only

  • Binks Model 2100 (66SS-66SD-3) — conventional gun, best for water-based adhesives
  • Binks Model 2100 (63BSS-63PB) — conventional gun, best for solvent-based contact adhesives
  • Devilbiss JGA-510-24D — pressure-fed conventional gun purpose-built for water-based adhesives
  • CA Technologies Panther 100G (P100G-18-1590) — Teflon-coated conventional for water-based
  • CA Technologies LYNX L100C-18-2266 — economical Teflon-coated conventional, water-based
  • CA Technologies LYNX L100C-13-2263 — same LYNX platform, solvent-based tip package

Complete adhesive spray outfits (pot + hose + gun, ready to spray)

  • Binks 2.8 Gallon Adhesive Spray Outfit — stainless-lined pressure pot for water or solvent (from $1,786)
  • CA Technologies 2.5 Gallon Adhesive Spray Outfit — Teflon-coated pot with dual regulators (from $1,404)
  • Graco T1 Transfer Pump Adhesive Outfit — 2:1 ratio pump feeds continuously from a 5-gal pail (from $2,720)
  • Graco Triton Stainless-Steel Adhesive Outfits — Stand-Mount ($4,555), Wall-Mount ($4,055), Pail-Mount ($4,055). See the Graco Triton 345078 owner's manual for pump specs.

Water-based vs. solvent-based — which gun/pot fits your adhesive?

  • Water-based adhesives — require stainless-steel or Teflon-coated wetted parts to prevent corrosion. Choose Binks 2100 with 66SS-66SD-3 needle/nozzle, or any of the LYNX / Panther Teflon-coated guns. Pot must be stainless-lined or Teflon-coated (never bare steel).
  • Solvent-based contact adhesives — more forgiving on materials. Binks 2100 with 63BSS-63PB (P) is the standard. LYNX L100C-13-2263 is a lower-cost alternative. Pot material is less critical; both our Binks and CA Technologies pots work.
  • High-volume production — consider the Graco T1 or Triton pump systems that feed directly from a 5-gallon pail or drum. No pot refills mid-shift.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between water-based and solvent-based contact adhesive spray equipment?
Water-based adhesives corrode carbon steel and are typically thicker than solvent based adhesives  — they require stainless-steel or Teflon-coated wetted parts (pot lining, fluid tips, needles). Solvent-based adhesives are more forgiving; standard carbon steel and zinc-lined pots work. Always match your gun's fluid path and pot lining to the adhesive chemistry you're spraying.

Can I use a regular HVLP spray gun for contact adhesive?
Contact adhesives are typically to thick to spray with HVLP , HVLP is a more efficient spray gun than a conventional spray gun but it doesn't have the atomization ability of a conventional spray gun so for glue conventional spray guns are typically best

Do I need a pressure pot for spraying adhesives, or will a cup gun work?
Adhesives are thick so you typically need to be able to push the coating to the spray gun and so you need a pressure pot, 2 quart pressure cup, or 2:1 transfer pump like the Graco pump

How do I pick between the Binks, CA Technologies, and Graco Triton outfits?
Budget-focused → CA Technologies 2.5 gallon ($1,404). Standard shop workhorse → Binks 2.8 gallon ($1,786). High-volume production feeding from 5-gallon pails or drums → Graco T1 pump ($2,720) or Triton stainless-steel systems ($4,055-$4,555). All three work for both water-based and solvent-based adhesives; the differentiators are throughput and durability.

What's the CFM requirement for spraying adhesives?
Most conventional adhesive guns need 10-15 CFM at 30-50 PSI at the gun. That translates to roughly a 7.5 HP two stage  compressor at. Undersized compressors cause pressure drop, poor atomization, and inconsistent spray pattern — always size your air supply to match the gun's CFM spec.
