Airflow type selection

Open-face → small parts, budget install. Crossflow → 90% of collision shops. Semi-downdraft → high-end refinish, better finish quality than crossflow. Full downdraft → OEM-quality automotive, aerospace, top-tier refinish.

Filtration + heated make-up air

Every GFS booth ships with intake and exhaust filtration matched to your VOC/emissions spec. Optional heated make-up air units maintain booth temperature in winter — essential in cold climates where cold intake air destroys finish quality and dry times.

Compliance + permitting

GFS ships EPA 6H compliance documentation and OSHA airflow specs with every booth. Local mechanical + air quality permits are the customer's responsibility, but we provide all the CFM/emissions data your permit engineer needs.

What size Global Finishing Solutions paint booth do I need?
Match booth size to the largest part you'll spray plus 4-6 feet of working room on each side. For automotive bumpers and small parts, a 14x8x8 open-face booth works. For full-size vehicles, plan on a 26x14x11 crossflow or downdraft booth minimum. For truck/RV work, 40-foot semi-downdraft is standard. Open-face, crossflow, semi-downdraft, or full downdraft — which airflow do I need?
Open-face is cheapest and works for small parts + low VOC materials. Crossflow (horizontal airflow front to back) suits most collision/refinish shops. Semi-downdraft pulls air down from the ceiling and out the back — better finish quality than crossflow. Full downdraft (air enters ceiling, exits floor) is the gold standard for automotive OEM-quality refinish and required by many insurance carriers. GFS builds all four types.

Do GFS booths meet EPA and OSHA compliance?
Yes — all GFS booths ship with EPA 6H compliance documentation for VOC control, and are designed to meet OSHA airflow requirements for operator safety (typically 100 FPM cross-sectional air velocity). We provide compliance packages including CFM certifications, exhaust monitoring, and emissions filter specs for your local air quality permit application.

What's included when I buy a GFS booth from Pittsburgh Spray Equipment?
The base booth ships with structure, doors, lighting, exhaust fan(s), filters (intake + exhaust), controls, and installation drawings. Delivery is typically LTL flatbed. Installation is available through our GFS-certified installer network. Add-on options include heated make-up air units, drying/curing systems, tire lifts, prep stations, and mixing rooms.

How long is the lead time for a GFS paint booth?
Standard configurations ship in 3-6 weeks from order. Custom-engineered booths (oversized, unusual dimensions, specialty air handling) run 8-14 weeks. Because GFS builds to order, calling in your requirements early is important — we can spec, quote, and reserve a build slot to hit your target install date.

Do you handle installation and permitting?
Installation is coordinated through GFS-certified installer partners in your area. Permitting is your responsibility (local mechanical + air quality permits vary widely by jurisdiction), but we provide all the CFM/emissions documentation your permit engineer needs. Many customers use their own general contractor for the electrical and HVAC connections.
